Abstract

Oral candidiasis caused by opportunistic infection of the genus Candida is one of common geriatric oral mucosal diseases. Antifungal medications such as nystatin or fluconazole are widely used for treating oral candidiasis, but there are some patients who are refractory to these commonly used antifungal medications. In this case report, we present two patients who turned out refractory oral candidiasis to fluconazole and showed significant reduction of clinical signs and symptoms following itraconazole treatment. Itraconazole could be one of treatment options for the treatment of oral candidiasis not responding to fluconazole.
